Strong Finish for the Reiver Women

Strong Finish for the Reiver Women

Another difficult tournament played in difficult weather conditions led to a good performance for the Women's golf team. The event took place in Wayne, NE hosted by Wayne College and consisted of 11 NCAA DII teams and 2 NAIA teams. The tournament was slated for 2 days, playing 18 holes each day. With the weather forecast for bad conditions on Day 2 it was decided to play all 36 holes on Day 1.

The change in format didn't impact the Reiver performance too badly as they found themselves tied for 3rd place after round 1. Led by a great score from Baylie Pyke who recorded a +2, 74. Beatriz Pinheiro helped with a 79, Lauren Brown and Rylin Davidson followed with an 82.

Rolling right into round 2 the wind increased to 25-30 mph and gust of 40 mph. The first half of round 2 saw the Reiver maintain their 3rd place. However, making the turn after 9 holes and facing the toughest part of the course they saw their lead drop to 5th place, where they would finish. Pyke led until the final 2 holes and faced the toughest par 3 on the course. A simple150 yard hole turned into playing well over 200 yards where most girls were using drivers and still not making the green.

Pyke finished in 2nd place, while Brown had a solid top 25 finish (24th). Davidson and Pinheiro finished tied for 33rd place.

The Reivers will complete their Spring season, before postseason, on April 22nd and 23rd when they host at their home course, Bent Tree golf Course.
