Reivers Come From Behind for the Victory

The Reiver Women fought through some tough weather conditions to take 1st place at the Bulldog Spring invite hosted by Concordia University that was played at Highlands golf course in Lincoln, NE

The tournament consisted of 54-holes with 36 holes played on Day 1. After round 1 the women sat in 2nd place behind Morningside College by 12 strokes. The weather played a big part with 'feel like' temps in the upper 20's/lower30's and wind gusts well above 35+mph. Sophomore Baylie Pyke led the way with a score of 77, followed by Freshman Beatriz Pinheiro with a 85.

The Reivers started to chip away at the Morningside lead in the second round and were only 8 strokes back at the conclusion. Once again led by Pyke with an 80, and Pinheiro's 82. Charlie Maxwell also contributed with a score of 83.

Day 2 and the final 18 holes the Reivers started off strong and started to chase down Morningside. The score stayed close with the Reivers trailing until the 53rd hole of the tournament when they found themselves in 1st place. The Reivers secured the victory on the final hole when Pyke parred her 18th hole and Morningside golfer bogied.

The par by Pyke forced a player to see who would win the individual honors. The play-off lasted 2 holes where the Morningside golfer eventually birdied the hole to Pyke's par.

Day 2 found the top 6 golfers in the 70's or 80's. Pyke once again led the team with a 77, Maxwell-81, Pineiro and Rylin Davidson shot an 84, while Lauren Brown and Winnie Hung scored 87-88 respectfully.

"I'm really proud of our players," said Assistant coach Ryan Norman. "They stayed poised through the entirety of the tournament when conditions were absolutely miserable for scoring. They just kept battling through there at the end.

The women will take a week off before they participate in the Wildcat Classic Golf Tournament hosted by Wayne State University. The field for this tournament will consist of all NCAA Division II teams.
