Reiver Women Golf Play Well in Division I Tournament

Playing in their first NCAA Division I golf tournament since 2017, the Reiver women made a great showing at the Creighton Classic held at Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha, NE. For most of the players it was the first time they had played in a 54-hole tournament over a 2-day period. They fared well against the other DI teams and finished tied for 2nd to University of Nebraska at Omaha. Creighton University won the tournament.

"I was very pleased with how the team played. On Day 1, having to play 36 holes, I thought we would have a let down toward the end of the day but they finish only 3 strokes off their opening round of 315", Said Head Coach Matt Robinson. "Day 2 we played unbelievable. All the girls had some body part hurting from the first day. The on-sight trainer really earned their money this day'"

Day 2 brought some of the best play that had been played all fall season. The ladies got off to a quick start, aided by Freshman Katie Graham who holed out from 111 yards on the par 5 6th hole. The eagle helped her get to -4 through the first 6 holes. Steady play from Sophomores Luisa Gibson and Seira Kubo as well as Freshman Minhae Gwon kept the Reiver right in the scoring.

The team ended the day shooting a score of 297, which if hadn't been for the par of 73 would have brought the score record into question. Scoring for the day was as follows: Gwon-72, Graham-73, Gibson-74, Kubo-77, Holley Elliot-85 & Katie Schweers-90 (played as individual)

The Women will return to action next Monday & Tuesday (Oct. 18th & 19th) when they play in their Fall finally in the Grandview University Invite.
