Reiver Women Flirt with the School Record

The Iowa Western Women's golf team got off to a fast start on Day 2 of the Lila Frommelt Fall Classic hosted by Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, SD. Entering the day down by 12 strokes to start, the Reivers had an uphill climb to try and overtake Morningside University. Progress was being made when disaster hit. Returner, All-American, Seira Kubo injured her wrist attempting a punchout shot under a tree, Kubo hit a tree root and reinjured a wrist she was having problems with.

Down a player after withdrawing Kubo, the women had to rely on the remaining 4 players for the team score. Holly Elliott stepped up and provided encouragement for the team. After starting her round +7 after her first 3 holes, Elliott was able to turn her game around and shot +4 on her raining 15 holes.

Led by Luisa Gibson, who took first place for the tournament and Minhae Gwon who took 2nd. The Reivers were able to over take Morningside and complete the round for a 10-stroke victory. The team score of 294 was 3 strokes off the school record and was the 2nd lowest in the history of the tournament. Morningside shot the lowest round in tournament history the day prior (289).

A strong showing by Katie Graham who shot even par on day 2 to finish the tournament in 4th place and a solid 81 from Katie Schweers, playing as a individual, was good enough for a 14th place finish. The women will be back in action Sept 25th and 26th as they travel to Lincoln, NE to play in the Nebraska Wesleyan Invitational at Mahoney Golf Course.
