Reiver Women's Golf Opens the season with a Strong Showing

The Reiver Women's golf team opened the season at the Peru State College Invite at Table Creek Golf Course in Nebraska City, NE. Having it be their first event, there were a few obstacles at the beginning of play the first day. But the Women overcame the issues and posted the best opening round in school history by shooting a team score of 309. Returner Seira Kubo lead 4 Reivers in the 70's with a score of 75. Freshman Minhae Gwon followed with a 76 and Sophomore Luisa Gibson and fellow Scotish teammate Katie Graham each fired a 79.

"It was good to see the ladies start the season off with a good score," said Head Coach Matt Robinson. "We were really using this tournament to post some scores and see what area's of the golf game we need to focus on in practices. This was the first round that all of them saw this course, since we didn't have a practice round. I was somewhat surprised with the 309 team score."

Day 2 brought better conditions (less wind) and the women played better then day 1 by scoring a team score of 302. The 4 women that scored in the 70's on day 1 all continued to score in the 70's with better rounds. This day saw Gwon lead the pack with a 74, followed by Kubo (75), Gibson (75) and Graham (78). Kubo and Gwon would tie for 1st place and Gibson and Graham brought home 3rd and 4th place. Returner Katie Schweers placed 5 places to make it a all Reiver finish.

Due to some complications on Day 1, Sophomore Holly Elliott saw her first action of the year on Day 2 and posted a score of 82. Rounding out the Reiver team was Kaileigh Vennewitz who placed 9th and Sam Doughty. The Women will be back in action Sept 17th & 18th in Sioux City, IA competing in the Briar Cliff University Invite. "The tournament will be a challenge for the women," said Robinson. "The field will be the largest they will see all Fall season and the course is tight off the tee box. We will need to keep the ball in play to score well."
