Iowa Women Golf Team Finishes First in First Tournament of the Fall

Iowa Western Women Golf team opened their fall season with a win as they played in the Midland University Women's Fall Invitational. The tournament took place in Fremont, NE on Monday under ideal weather conditions.

The Reivers had a team score of 343 good enough for first place. The closest competitor was College of St. Mary's that lagged behind by 27 strokes. freshman Seira Kubo had a great first meet of our career by ending tied for 2nd place. Most of the day she competed for the top spot. Luisa Gibson only competing in her 2nd college event for IW was able to finish in the top 5 as well (4th place).

"This first event was a good learning experience for the team. With really only having 1 individual returning from last years team, because of COVID, the new members were able to get firsthand knowledge on how to play in College tournaments. Not only the playing aspect but the travel, how to warm-up, meetings prior, etc. We should be able to keep learning from each event and build our confidence." Said Assistant Coach Matt Robinson.

Rounding out the team scoring was Freshman Holly Elliott finishing in the top 10 (8th). Returner Maya Northcutt and Freshman Katie Schweers played in the same group and pushed each other the entire round. Northcutt ended up getting Schweers on the last hole and finished in 16th spot, Schweers in 17th spot. Our final freshman Sam Doughty, an Arlington, NE native, and familiar with the Fremont Country Club was able to finish in the 26th spot.
