Women's Golf Starts Off the Season with Win in Creston

CRESTON, IOWA

Iowa Western Women's golf team started off the season with a win at "The War at the Moor" hosted by Southwestern Community College.  The event was played while dodging rain showers and lightening most of the day. Finally, after the 3rd time of calling the women off the course, it was decided to call the event and utilize the front nine scorings as the official scores. Emily Spies fired a round of 38 to take 2nd place and Marisa Weeks carded a 43 to grab 5th.

While the back 9 wasn't used for scoring, 3 of the Reiver women completed their rounds before the event was officially canceled. All, either improved on their back nine or were on track to improve. The biggest improvement came from Kassy Vest who opened with a 46 (+10 strokes) but finished her back nine even par (36)! Freshman Maya Northcutt and Abby Depperschmidt had solids rounds for their first collegiate event. Northcutt recorded 6 pars in the 15 holes she played, while Depperschmidt recorded two birdies early in her round.

The squad will be back at it this weekend when they travel to Sioux City, Iowa at the Lila Frommelt Fall Classic hosted by Briar Cliff University. Several regional NAIA colleges will be participating in this event, presenting a good early test for this season's squad.
