Reiver Women Golf Finish 7th at the National Championships

Going into the National Championships the Reiver Women were ranked 10th. After a good spring season of tournaments they had their sights set higher, a top 5 finish among the best in the Nation. Round 1 got off to a rainy start. After the Women completed their first 9 holes, a large thunderstorm rolled in and halted play for over 2 hours. It was determined that they were not going to get all the teams to complete their rounds for the day and Round 1 was totally scratched. Very unfortunate for the Reivers as most of the ladies were playing well.

With the tournament reduced to 54-holes the ladies went out and shot a round of 348 which was good enough to place them in 6th place. Freshman Kassy Vest led the Reivers with a low round of 84, which tied her low round of her collegiate career.

The alternate start times put the Reivers in the afternoon group for round 2. With the heat and the sun 'baking' the greens it brought on a different game. The Ladies had a hard time figuring out the speed of the greens. The Reivers lost a few strokes and dropped back into 7th place over-all. Lisa Lied led the team with a round of 82.

The 3rd and final round brought some great scores from Lied and Emily Spies. Knowing it was her final round as a Reiver, Lied produced a great score of 80 which put her in 23rd place over-all. Spies fired the low round of the tournament for the Reivers with a 79 and finished tied for 36th.

Freshman Vest finished in 52nd place while Kimberly Park finished tied for 65th and Marisa Weeks finished tied for 74th.

Spies, Vest and Weeks will return for their Sophomore year while Lied will move on to play golf for Winthrop University and Parks will pursue her Nursing Degree.
