Ladies Make it 10 in a Row as Region XI Champions

The Reiver Women's Golf team extended their consecutive win streak at the Region XI Championships to 10 years in a row. The scheduled 4 rounds were played over a 2-weekend period and it allowed the Ladies to extend their lead each of the 4 rounds. The women got off to a fast start in round 1 with a team score of 326 to lead Iowa Lakes by 16 strokes. Iowa lakes bounced back in round 2 and set their school record, however Iowa Western was able to extend their lead by 1 stroke by firing their season low score of 321! Lisa Lied battled for the lead and was tied after the 2 days of play. Kimberly Park shot a career low round of 76 in round 2, which was also good enough for the low round of the tournament!

Round 3 showed the consistency of this team of late , as they scored a 327 as a team. Iowa Lakes couldn't keep pace and the Reivers extended their lead by 44 strokes entering the final round. The final round brought tough conditions. The wind chill at Tee Time was 36 degrees and the wind gust up to 35 MPH. "We have played in tough conditions before, specifically during the Regional Championships," said Assistant Coach Matt Robinson, "But these were the worst I've ever seen before". With the rain setting up and conditioning getting worse, play was stopped after 9 holes. The completed 9 holes were counted for the official scoring and the remaining 9 holes were canceled. Even with the concealed 9 holes the Reivers once again extended their lead and won by 55 strokes.

Lied battled for a Runner-up finish, marking the second year in a row where she was Runner-Up. Emily Spies took advantage of the final 9 holes to over take fellow teammate Park (4th place) for 3rd place. Freshman Kassy Vest had a solid tournament and finished in 10th place as did Marisa Weeks who finished in 13rd spot.

With the victory Iowa Western qualified for the NJCAA National Championships that will be held May 13th thru 16th at the LPGA International Golf Course in Daytona Beach, FL.
