COUNCIL BLUFFS - NJCAA No. 2 Iowa Western Women's Soccer defeated Illinois Central 6-0 in the Central District Quarter-Finals.
The Reivers (12-0-3) took control of the game early when Hinami Ogushi buried a shot from 20 yards out that found the top corner to open the scoring in the 6th minute. Just six minutes later, Honaka Nohara took the ball to the end line and crossed it into the middle of the box where the Reivers' leading goal scorer, Oruha Hayashi was waiting and she settled the ball with her right foot and knocked it in with her left to the far side netting for her 20th goal of the season.
Iowa Western allowed just one shot to the Cougars (6-6-1) in the first half but picked up a pair of yellow cards towards the end of the first 45 minutes of play.
Out of the break, IWCC found their 3rd goal of the game on a corner kick in the 51st minute. Hayashi took the set piece and Laura Rodriguez came streaking across the box and volleyed it into the right corner for her sixth goal of the year. Four minutes later Mariana Brito played a long ball from the back line that travelled 50 yards, took one hop, and Hayashi found the slightest touch to move it past the Cougars Goal Keeper Gabriela Acevedo Pacheco and the forward tapped it home for her 21st goal of the year.
Iowa Western added goals from Ryu and Raquel Batalla and earned a trip to the Central District Semi-Final against Lewis & Clark College, who defeated Indian Hills 2-0 earlier in the day. That game will be played at the John and Harriet Wiebe Football & Soccer Complex on Sunday, November 3rd with the time still to be determined.
*The Midwest District Semi-Final is now on Saturday, November 2nd at 5pm
