Gabby Cortez

Gabby Cortez begins her first season as an assistant coach for women's basketball.  Coach Cortez comes to Iowa Western after spending the last three seasons at Labette Community College under current Reiver head coach, Mitch Rolls.

Cortez hails from Natchitoches, Louisiana where she was a two-time Sun Belt All-Conference forward for the University of Louisiana-Monroe averaging 15.7 ppg and 5.3 rpg.  Prior to ULM, Cortez played two seasons at Southwest Mississippi Community College, averaging 16.9 ppg, 6.3 rpg, while shooting 47% from the field and 80% from the free throw line.

Cortez eventually took her talents overseas, playing for Angelet Cote Basque Basket in France.

In three seasons as an assistant coach at Labette, Coach Cortez helped the Cardinals to a 63-13 record with two players earning NJCAA All-American honors, 10 players earning KJCCC All-Conference selections, and 10 athletes being named All-Region VI.
