Reivers earn Weekend Sweep at the Keith Lindsey Classic

The Iowa Western Men's Basketball team picked up a pair of wins this weekend at Kansas City Kansas. The Reivers defeated host team Kansas City Kansas on Friday night by a score of 76-67. Then on a quick turnaround the Reivers earned a hard fought win on Saturday afternoon beating #7 North Central Missouri College by a final score of 90-63.

 

On Friday night the Reivers jumped out to a quick start by going up 6-0 in the first three minutes of the game. The Blue Devils of KCK fought back though as they went on their own mini run scoring the next seven points. The first half was a back and forth affair that saw the Reivers trail by a score of 35-31. In the first half Iowa Western was led by a pair of newcomers as Malik Brooks had 9 points on 4 of 4 shooting from the field and Thomas Faber knocked in 8 points.

 

In the second half the Reivers came out with great intensity and took the lead on a Dewayne Vass layup two minutes into the half. From that point on the Reivers did not relinquish the lead. Sophomore Roland McCoy led the charge with 14 second half points and Malik Brooks who finished with a game high 20 points while not missing a field goal.

 

The Iowa Western starters contributed 71 of 76 total points while holding the opponents to 34% shooting from the field.

 

The Reivers secured their first road win of the season by a final score of 76-67.

 

After a late Friday night tilt the Reivers had a quick turnaround as they played #7 North Central Missouri. A back and forth affair in the first half had the Reivers ahead 47-33 as they were able to make a late run to end the half.

 

In the second half the Reivers were able to sustain and extend the lead as Dewayne Vass and Jaden Flournoy were a combined 17 for 21 from the field.

 

The Reivers half court defense was stout throughout the afternoon as they forced 19 turnovers and held North Central to 20% from the three point line.

 

This is the first ranked win for the Reivers on the year.

 

Iowa Western will be back in action at home on Tuesday November 16th as they host 4-0 Central Community College - Columbus at 6:00 PM CST.
