Reivers Can't Outshoot Lakers in Road Loss

Estherville, Iowa

A pair of twenty-point performers wasn't enough to carry Iowa Western as the Reivers' lost their third straight game.

IWCC staked themselves to an early 19-10 lead behind five three-pointers, two by Marcedus Leech, Jr. before Lakes stormed back to take a 28-27 lead.

The teams would exchange baskets into halftime where the home squad led 38-36.  Roland McCoy paved the way for IWCC with 12 points on 4-6 shooting.

In the second half, the Reivers and Lakers exchanged runs through the first ten minutes before ILCC took their biggest lead at 11 with 8:30 remaining in the game and held that advantage until the IWCC made their last run at a victory with under four remaining.

Karl Jones cut the lead to eight, then his free throw and a pair by Dewayne Vass dropped it to seven after Lakes had answered with a bucket of their own.  A three-point play by Leech got the Reivers to within four with 2:23 remaining, but those were the last points the squad could muster in a 91-85 loss.

Leech and Roland McCoy each scored 20 to lead Coach Van Riessen's squad, while Dewayne Vass (11) and Kelvin Balfour (9) chipped in another twenty points.  Elijah Pickens scored seven and led the team with six assists.

The Reivers are off until next Tuesday when Iowa Central comes to town.  That game can be viewed on the Reiver Sports Network or followed live on the Scorevision Fan App available on mobile devices.
