Late Rally Sinks Reivers

Council Bluffs, Iowa

A tale of two halves on Saturday at Reiver Arena.

Dewayne Vass scored 15 of his team-high 19 in the first half to lead Iowa Western Men's Basketball to a seven-point lead through twenty minutes, but Marshalltown rallied back with under four minutes to play to stun the Reivers.

The visiting Tigers (7-1) shot nearly 60% (59.3) and outrebounded the Reivers by 11 in the second half to leave Council Bluffs with a 77-69 victory.

Those numbers were polar opposites of what IWCC was able to do in the opening half, but Marshalltown showed off why they're atop the ICCAC standings through eight games with the comeback victory.

"I thought we played really well in the first half on both sides of the court." Said Head Coach Chad Van Riessen, "However in the second half we lacked focus and consistency to do the things necessary to finish the game and come out with a win."

Marcedus Leech, Jr. and Roland McCoy scored 15 and 12 respectively for the Reivers and Joe Doyle led the team in rebounding with 11 boards off the bench.

IWCC hits the road to Iowa Lakes for a rematch with the Lakers on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.  That game can be viewed here - https://www.iowalakesathletics.com/webcast.
