Council Bluffs, Iowa

An early game deficit was too much to overcome for the Reiver Men's Basketball team over the weekend at Reiver Arena.

IWCC hit only 30% from the floor in the first half and visiting Kirkwood took advantage of key turnovers to outpace the Reivers, 76-60.

"I felt the difference in teh game was in the first half with how we played offensively."  Said Reivers Head Coach Chad Van Riessen, "Our turnovers and inability to consistently score allowed them to go on runs and build a lead that we were able to chip away at later in the game, but never able to overcome."

Roland McCoy and Dewayne Vass each paced the Reivers with 12 points, but it was hard sailing for the offense to ever find a consistent groove.

Iowa Western (2-2) could never get the deficit closer than 10 points in the second half and the Eagles (3-1) eventually put the game out of reach.

Elijah Pickens contributed three rebounds, three steals and four assists while scoring eight points and Vass led the team with eight rebounds.

Van Riessen added, "Moving forward we need to have a better understanding of playing to our team's strengths and focus on the details that will enable us to find success offensively and defensively."

The Reivers travel to Norfolk, Nebraska Wednesday night to face long-time foe Northeast at the Cox Activities Center.  The game can be followed with Northeast live stats link - https://goreivers.com/sports/mbkb/2020-21/boxscores/20210203_clrm.xml
