High Powered Reivers Offense Not Enough in Road Opener

Ft. Dodge, Iowa

Another high powered offensive effort from Head Coach Chad Van Riessen's squad wasn't enough to keep the Reivers record perfect Saturday afternoon.

Iowa Western fell in an offensive, road shootout, 95-91, to rival Iowa Central in Ft. Dodge.

Five players scored in double figures for IWCC, led again by Dwayne Vass off the bench.  The freshman from Buffalo, New York poured in 26 points, including 9-11 from the free-throw line.  Vass is averaging 28 per contest, all off the bench.

Elijah Pickens had another solid performance from the floor, adding 16 with four assists.  Marcedus Leech, Jr. (14), Roland McCoy (13), and Kelvin Balfour (12) rounded out the double-digit scoring.

"Our guys competed and played hard," said Van Riessen.  "As in all close games, we were a couple of possessions away from the outcome we were hoping for.  I'm looking forward to our guys learning from this game and our team making progress moving forward."

Karl Jones contributed three blocked shots and the Reivers dominated on the glass with Balfour and Vass each grabbing eight.  The Reivers held a 48-31 advantage on the boards, but turnovers and a Triton advantage from the free-throw line proved the difference in the high scoring affair.

A pair of home games fill the schedule this week for the Reivers.  Southwestern comes to town on Wednesday night for a seven o'clock tip at Reiver Arena.  The game is closed to all fans, but can be seen on the Reiver Sports Network pay-per-view broadcast.  The action can also be followed by downloading the ScoreVision fan app, which follows the action on the scoreboard with added highlights from the game for free.
