Colorado Mesa University Hires Oscar Ramirez
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Colorado Mesa University has announced the hiring of Oscar Ramirez as their new Associate Athletic Director by Interim Director of Athletics Joan McDermott.
"We will miss Oscar at Iowa Western," said Iowa Western President Dr. Dan Kinney. "He has provided some great leadership over his tenure as a coach and associate athletic director, but this is a great opportunity for him to gain a stronger perspective of athletic administrative leadership. We will wish him well in his future endeavors."
"I am extremely thankful for my time at Iowa Western and the mentorship I received from Dr. Kinney and Shane Larson," said Ramirez. "I have truly enjoyed my time at Iowa Western as a student, coach, and administrator. I am sad to leave such an amazing group of people at Iowa Western, but I am excited for this next chapter in my athletic career as the Associate Athletic Director at Colorado Mesa University."
Ramirez spent the past three seasons as Assistant Athletic Director and Associate Athletic Director where he was in charge of gameday administration for the Reivers. Prior to his role in the administration, Ramirez spent four years as the Associate Head Coach for Iowa Western Wrestling and helped establish the women's wrestling program at IWCC.
We are excited for Oscar and his family as they transition to this new opportunity," said Iowa Western Athletic Director Shane Larson. "Oscar has done an amazing job supporting our coaches and student-athletes during his time as the associate athletic director here at Iowa Western. We will miss him greatly but, look forward to following his career as he continues to grow and lead. Colorado Mesa University is an outstanding NCAA Div. II institution and we congratulate Joan McDermott on an outstanding hire."
Ramirez is an alum of Iowa Western, earning NJCAA All-American Wrestling honors in 2015 & 2016, finishing as the national runner-up in 2015 at 149 lbs.
Ramirez then transferred to Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota earning his bachelor's degree in higher education.
Ramirez is to assume his role in July, handling game day administration and sport supervision for the Mavs.
