Reivers take Halloween Classic

HILLSBORO, MO- Coming off a dominating performance on Friday, the No.2 Iowa Western volleyball team opened up the final day of the Jefferson College Halloween Classic against Illinois Central. The Reivers dominated the Cougars in a straight set match (25-17, 25-10 and 25-17).

Setter, Hina Pua'a scored 32 total assists, allowing Caitlyn Cooper and Irina Alekseeva to lead the offensive attack combining for 23 kills. Iowa Western had a block party at the net tallying 16 total blocks, Makayla Doyle and Ali Verzani had 11 of the 16.

Libero Emi Pua'a and Cooper topped the defense with 9 digs each.

The last match of the weekend for the Reivers was against the Missouri State-West Plains Grizzlies, a matchup from earlier in the season where the Reivers won twice in straight sets. For the third time this season, the Reivers beat the Grizzlies in an intense three-set match (25-12, 25-21 and 31-29). Hina Pua'a dished out 42 assists and 2 block assists.  Cooper paced the offense with 15 kills while Alekseeva followed with 14. The Iowa Western defense was spectacular with 52 digs in the match, Cooper led the way with 14 and Emi Pua'a recorded 10.

Next up, the Reivers will head to Scottsbluff, NE this coming weekend to play their last regular season tournament before hosting the District J tournament November 3-4, 2017 in Kanesville Arena.
