Weekend success leads to 'Jam the Gym' win

Iowa Western Volleyball remains undefeated at home after winning two more matches against Johnson County last Saturday and conference rival, Indian Hills Tuesday. Last Saturday, the Reivers beat JCCC in a straight-set match (25-12, 25-21 and 25-17).  The cavaliers had no answers for freshman, Irina Alekseeva (.480), who scored 13 kills in 25 attempts with only one error. Meanwhile freshman, Ali Verzani (.200), and sophomore, Caitlynn Cooper (.212), added 8 and 10 kills respectively.  The Reivers registered 10 blocks as a team, Makayla Doyle topped the squad with 3 of them. Defensively, libero, Emi Pua'a, scooped up an impressive 15 digs while setter, Hina Pua'a, added 10.

 

Last Night, the Reivers hosted conference rival Indian Hills. After winning in a three-set sweep (25-13, 25-20 and 25-22), Iowa Western clinched the Conference Championship, and will be host the Regional Tournament this coming November. Hina Pua'a spread the offense registering 40 assists.  13 of those assists were put down by Alekseeva (.194), and Verzani (.474) chalked up 11. Middle Blocker, Morgan Bossler (.350) had a great performance scoring 8 kills with only one error, while Makayla Doyle added 5 kills and 4 blocks. Emi Pua'a owned the back court once again with 13 digs, while Cooper followed suit with 11.

 

Iowa Western will be at home this weekend to host the Reiver Festival;  the first match on Friday will begin at 1pm against Independence Community College.
