McKenna Minter Named NJCAA Player of the Year

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Iowa Western Women's Basketball Guard McKenna Minter has been named the 2023-24 National Junior College Athletic Association DII Women's Basketball Player of the Year as announced today by the NJCAA.

"We are so excited for McKenna to receive this prestigious and well-deserved honor," said Head Coach Mitch Rolls. "Her hard work and leadership carried our program to the best season in school history, which led to her breaking multiple school records while helping the team reach a top-5 national ranking.  She has been a pleasure to coach this season and we cannot wait to see the success she has next year in her sophomore season at Iowa Western."

The Freshman from Lincoln, NE led the country in points scored with 746, and field goals, knocking down 278 shots this season.  Minter finished 2nd in the NJCAA for assists, setting a school record with 208 helpers while tying the IWCC mark for assists in a game when she dished out 15 dimes on March 4th versus North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City.

Minter scored double-figures in all but two of the team's 37 games this year, including 20 games of 20 or more points and five contests of 30-plus points while racking up 14 double-doubles and a pair of triple-doubles.

The Reivers finished the season 33-4 ending with a 6th place finish and the NJCAA DII Women's Basketball National Tournament at the Leggett & Platt Athletic Center on the campus of Missouri Western State University in Joplin, MO.  IWCC set a new school record for wins in a season and continued their winning streak at Reiver Arena which now stands at 43 dating back to December 8th, 2021.

In addition to being the national player of the year, Minter was named a 1st team NJCAA All-American while garnering ICCAC 1st team All-Region honors as well as being selected as the conference player of the year.
