COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Iowa Western Women's Basketball opened up the second half of the 2023-24 season with a win over top-ranked Kirkwood CC at Reiver Arena.
The Reivers (11-1) jumped out to an early 16-6 lead off of four baskets and a free throw by Sophomore Guard McKenna Minter. The Eagles (10-1) would claw their way back throughout the second and third quarters, tying the game at 42 with 56 seconds remaining in the third period. Iowa Western would break the game open however, going on an 18-2 run over the first six minutes of the 4th quarter to put the game away, 67-51.
Minter would end the game with a career-high 34 points, adding 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals to her stat line. Freshman Guard Shannon Niles contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds to the Reivers. For the Eagles, Demetria Prewitt dropped 29 points and 8 rebounds to lead the way for Kirkwood.
Iowa Western moved up to #2 in the latest NJCAA polls, they'll face Kirkwood again on February 10th in Cedar Rapids.
