Reivers Open Conference Play with a Victory

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Iowa Western Women's Basketball opened up the 2023-24 ICCAC Conference schedule with a 65-61 victory over the Northeast CC Hawks.

The Reivers (9-1 |1-0) started the game shooting 6 for 11 from the field with Sophomore Forward Caleigh-Rose West pulling in 8 rebounds in the first 10 minutes of action.  IWCC would hold a 42-30 edge in the first half but the Hawks chipped away throughout the 2nd half to bring the game to within four points with 8:38 left in the 4th quarter.

Freshman Noel Warrior would drain a three to push the lead to seven, and the Reivers wouldn't look back.  Iowa Western out-rebounded the Hawks by an astounding 57-22 with West (15) and Freshman Kimahni Woods (16) combining for 31 by themselves.  Woods added 14 points for the double-double and Warrior led the way with 17 points, going 5-11 from deep.

Northeast (4-6 |1-1) were led by Allison Richards and Amber Lawson who combined for 38 of the Hawks' 61 points.

The Reivers are back in action on Saturday in Mason City, IA vs the NIACC Trojans.
