Reivers drop season opener in gritty fight against the Wildcats

Council Bluffs, IA – The Reiver women lost a tough season opener to the NJCAA Div. 1 North Dakota State College of Science. The Reivers were faced with adversity having to adhere to COVID-19 protocols and were only able to suit up six of the 15 players in the game against the Wildcats.

The six-man roster boasted a game high scorer in Ndidiamaka Ndukwe. The freshman guard from Inkster, MI scored 28 points on (11-20) and 2-5 from 3pt line shooting coupled with nine rebounds, just shy of a double-double in her debut performance. "I was nervous at first due to it being my first college game, but once we started playing it all came together. Unfortunately, we fell short but we all tried our best to contribute seeing as though we didn't have our entire team there to play," Ndidi exclaimed.

"It was a tough game for us only being able to play with six tonight. I am however, extremely proud of how our girls fought back even after being down 15 points at one point," Reiver coach Lindsey Vande Hoef said. "It was their fight and grit that makes me most proud. Most teams would hang their heads when faced with that kind of adversity but our girls choose to battle," added coach Lindsey Vande Hoef.

Freshman guard, Courtney Fields', also had a stand out performance in her collegiate debut night. Field's put up 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out the team high eight assists for the game. Michell Butler added 13 points and six rebounds in her debut.

The Reivers are now 0-1 and will start their road-game bout with the first game on Monday November 15th against Labette Community College. Tip off is at 5:30 PM in Parsons, KS.
