Women's Basketball Opens the Season #18 in NJCAA

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA -- The Iowa Western Women's Basketball team opens up it's 2017-18 season on the road, Friday, November 3, 2017 at the State Fair Classic versus the 2017 NJCAA Division 2 defending National Champions, Kirkwood CC who also was tabbed number one in the preseason rankings.  They will follow up on Saturday evening with Shawnee Community College before heading home to the friendly confines of Kanesville Arena.

The Reivers will host their home opener against Western Nebraska who checked in at number 25 in the initial poll on November 10, 2017 in the opening of the Holiday Inn/Hampton Inn Reiver Classic.  Tip-off is set for 5:00 pm. On Saturday, the Reivers will take on Briar Cliff University JV in a 5:00 PM tip. 

The Reivers return six players from the 2016-17 season, including two starters.  Iowa Western finished with a 24-9 record and advanced to the NJCAA National Tournament (Lubbock, Texas).  The Reivers will rely heavily on the returners for production and leadership both on and off the floor. Sophomore Jazza Johns (McHenry, IL), who led the team in rebounding and was the third leading scorer returns along with point guard, Delia Ania-Gaja (Barcelona, Spain) who led the team in multiple categories last season which include three-point FG%, assists and steals.

Also returning are guards Azaria Floyd (Racine, WI) and Zheniah Jackson (Milwaukee, WI) and forward Miya Bull (Charlottte, NC), and center Christelle Nyauchi (Harare, Zimbabwe).

The Reivers also have added seven talented new players to the program this year; Zhan'e Williams (Jersey City, NJ), Naomie Alnatas  (Cayenne, French Guiana), Channie Mai (Alberta, Canada), and Elsa Pardo (Barcelona, Spain) will provide depth in the backcourt while  Kiara Dallmann (Sheboygan, WI), Aubriana Noti (Colorado Spring, CO), and Julia Raflund (Malmo, Sweden) will see quality time in the frontcourt.
