Kiprotich & Biwott Win as Men Finish 4th and Women 6th at Woody Greeno Invite

LINCON,NE It was a great weekend for the Iowa Western Cross Country teams as they competed in the Woody Greeno Classic in Lincoln, NE. This was the first full meet for the Reivers as their first meet was stopped mid race due to weather and their second meet was cancelled.

In the women's race Mercy Biwott led from start to finish winning the 5k race in a time of 16:57. This is the second year in a row that a Reiver woman has won this race. In 2019 national champion Faith Linga won the 5k race her Freshman year in a time of 17:09. Mohussin Abakar would be the next Reiver to cross the finish line finishing with a time of 19:19. The Reivers finished the day with all five scorers finishing in the top 60 and finished 6th as a team.

In the men's race Nicholas Kiprotich opened his season with a win, running a school record in the 8k with a time of 24:00. Kiprotich led from start to finish in a race against the defending NJCAA  national champion and multiple Division 1 and Division 2 competitors. Not far behind Kiprotich sophomore Yonas Mogos finished 10th with a time of 24:50. The men's team had all five scorers finish in the top 40 and finished 4th as a team.  

The Reivers will be back in action in two weeks splitting the squad at the Chargers Invite in North Sioux City, SD and the Chili Pepper Invite in Fayettville, AR.
