Men and Women Finish 2nd as School Records Fall.

Storm Lake, Iowa - The Reivers were back in action this past weekend battling for the Region XI Championship hosted by Buena Vista University. 

The women's team was led by event wins in the long jump and high jump by Miracle Ailes. She broke the facility record and school record in the long jump in 6.17m. Ailes won the high jump in 1.75m. She finished 2nd in the 60m in a photo finish in 7.57. Finally, she ran the 3rd leg to the 1st place 4x4 that finished in a national qualifying time of 3:57.47 (Hoepner, Deer, Ailes, Amissah).

Ethel Amissah was 1st place in the 400m in 56.37 and 3rd in the 200m in 25.30. Daniella Deer was 2nd in 56.92. Hoepner 7th 1:03.85.  Jazmyn James was 1st place in the shot put in a school record 14.79m. Shakera Williams was 2nd in 14.13m. Natalie Albert was 5th in 11.84m. 

Charity Finau was 2nd in the weight throw in 14.49m followed by Shakera Williams 13.03m and Tyjah Thompson 12.28m. The women's 4x800m relay of (Jepkoech, Heyen, Johnson, Arnold) finished 3rd in 11:13.99. Bethany Stacey was 3rd in the 1000m in 3:16.80. Lauren Pierson out-leaned a competition to finish 4th in 3:20:43. Callie Arnold was 8th in 3:35.78. Stacey finished 4th in the mile running 5:43:06 and Arnold ran 6:06.34. Pierson finished 3rd in the 600m in 1:48.03. Cheyenne Sunderman was 5th in the 800m in 2:57.36, and 7th in the 600m in 2:05.36. Jepkoech finished 4th place in the 3000m 11:36.14 and 4th in the 5000m 20:33:14. Josey French claimed 3rd place in the 3000m 11:36.14, and 5th in the 5000m 21:00.17. Jessica Heyen 5th in 12:31.79. Bailey Horner won the pole vault in 2.10m. Antonia Sealy finished 2nd in the long jump in a pr of 5.76m. She also finished 2nd in the 60m hurdles in 8.76 and 6th in the high jump 1.40m.Kamdyn Stanley was 4th in the triple jump 9.58m and 6th in the 4.74m. Ritchina Stallman was 3rd in the high jump 1.55mMarquetta Burns was 4th in the 60m in 7.84 and 8th in the 200m. 

The men's team was led by multiple event winners. Mohammed Kowa was the champion in the men's 1 mile running 4:14.67. He finished 2nd in the 1000m in a close finish running 2:27.43. Steve Hines 7th 2:40.11. The DMR team of (Willis, Brown, Bett, Kowa) ran 10:34.90 to finish 1st. In the 800m Steve Hines finished 3rd 1:59.01, Meylnson Bett 7th in 2:00.74 and Chazz Brown 8th 2:01.52. Kylan Willis was 6th in the 3000m in 9.11.45. Ben Attia, Bett, Costigan, Wardyn ran 8:17.38 to finish 2nd. Tahj Hamm who tied the school record in the 400m running 47.94. His time converts to 47.19 to tie the program record. He doubled back and won the 200m in 21.56. The throwers had a good showing in the shot put. Denzs Simmonds led a 1-2-3 effort throwing 16.53, Mike Harris 15.73m for second and Brandon Gayle third 14.92m. Harris was also second in the weight throw throwing 14.30m. Jacinto Gaspar continued his impressive season winning the 3000m in 8:46.37 and 5000m in 15:16.22. Gaspar was 3rd in the mile in 4:16.78. Tyler Missick won the high jump in 2.05m and teammate Paul Rowden was second in 2.05m. Rowden 7.07m, Prosper Kapongo 6.79m and Marzeion Jones 6.70m finished 4-5-6 in the long jump. Jones Bass and Smith finished 4-7-8 in the triple jump. In the pole vault Ethan Fishell was 4th jumping 2.40m followed by teammate Marzeion Jones in 5th jumping 2.25m Andrew Brown was 2nd in the 200m in 22.13 and 4th in the 400m 49.52. Romario Northover was 4th in the 200m in 23.14 and 5th in the 400 49.55. AJ Kilbert was 7th in the 60m in 6.98. Jayden Brown finished 5th in the 600m in 1:23.92. Kamdyn Swartz led the way in the hurdles finishing 6th in 8.66. Marcus Edan finished 6th in the heptathlon scoring 3456 and teammate Donte Washington 8th with a score of 1692. 

"Both teams battled for the championship. We had people compete in multiple events and some try events for the first time which shows their commitment to the team. Our coaching staff is proud how the student athletes competed and look forward to a strong showing at nationals, " said Head Coach David Burnett. 

The Reivers return to action March 3-4 for the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas.
