Reivers Dominate Opening Match

WICHITA, Kan. - Iowa Western Women's Soccer opened the 2023 NJCAA D1 Women's National Soccer Tournament with a convincing 6-0 victory over Laramie County.

The tournament top-seeded Reivers (15-0-0) wasted no time, getting on the board just 45 seconds into the match when Forward Oruha Hayashi buried a rocket from 16 yards out.  Iowa Western kept the pressure on the Golden Eagles (10-4-3) when Hayashi played a ball into the box, finding a streaking Marta Llopis who struck it low and into the left side of the goal in the 5th minute.

Larmaie County's only threat came in the final minute of the first half as the Golden Eagles throw-in went off the head of a Reiver defender an found the foot of Macy Woolcock but Goalkeeper Bella Washington got just enough of it to bounce it off of the cross bar, Woolcock had a shot at the rebound but Washington was there to keep it out of the back of the net.

Iowa Western would go on to add goals in the 46th, 54th, 60th, and 78th minutes to seal game one of pool play for the Reivers.  Their next opponent is the 8th seeded Hill College Rebels whom IWCC has never faced in program history, that game is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 am at the main field at Stryker Sports Complex.
