Reivers Book Flight to Florida with Win over Lewis & Clark in District Final

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA: The #4 Reivers beat the Lewis and Clark Trailblazers in the Central District Final.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Reivers scored their first goal of the match in the 31st minute. Thr Reivers pressured the backline and forced a mistake, which launched the Reivers into a counter attack. Ririka Kamimura found Rylie Jacobsen on top of the box who laid the ball off for Marie Quentel. Quentel took a touch and fired a shot to the right top corner just out of reach of a diving Trailblazer keeper. The Reivers would take a 1-0 lead into halftime.

After halftime, the Reivers tightened up on defense limiting Lewis and Clark to only 2 shots in the half.  In the 87th minute, Reivers found the final goal of the game on a counterattack. Barbara Russo won a challenge in the defensive half and picked out Addison Moser with a pass. Moser found Quentel who attacked the backline of the Trailblazers and found Paula Boza in space. Boza took her defender to her right and shot the ball over the keeper into the back of the net for the 2-0 lead. The game would end 2-0 Reivers.

The Reivers saw out the remaining 3 minutes to capture the Central District Title and punched their ticket to Florida for the National Tournament.

NOTES & NUMBERS: The Reivers win their 11th District Championship. Boza collected another goal for a team leading 15. Quentel scored 10th goal and registered her 9th assist.

QUOTES: Head Coach Adam Sanchez: "We got the job done today. We have have players who show up in big matches and they did it again today. The team played with grit and determination today. I am proud of them  We now turn our focus to Florida and competing for a National Championship."
