Reivers Land 16th Consecutive ICCAC Regular Season Championship In Win Over Tritons

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA: The #5 Reivers beat the Iowa Central Tritons 4-2 in Council Bluffs.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Needing a win to lock up the ICCAC Title and the #1 Seed in the Regional Tournament, Iowa Western broke through on a corner kick by clogging the box and scoring an own goal to take the lead. Mayu Inokawa played the ball into the far post and it hit off of a Triton defender into the back of the net. The Reivers would score another at the 33rd minute off of a heads up play by Marie Quentel, who won the ball of a Triton throw in and shot from outside the 18 yard box. The ball sailed over the keepers head into the side netting for a 2-0 lead which would hold till the half.

After the break, Iowa Central would pull one back off of a defensive miscommunication at the 53rd minute. IIn the 71st, Ella Pelletier found herself in space and played a cross to Ririka Kamimura who turned and shot it far post for the 3-1 lead. Inokawa would score a goal of her own in the 79th minute on a solo run. She shot from 25 yards out and sailed it back post, ringing off the post and into the net. Tritons would pull another back in the 88th minute for a final scoreline of 4-2.

 

NOTES & NUMBERS: The Reivers improve to 13-1-0 to finish the regular season. Quentel scored her 9th goal of the season, 2nd on the team.  With the win, Iowa Western captures its 16th straight ICCAC Regular Season Championship. Reivers are also the #1 Seed in the Region XI tournament, first game will be October 26th at home.
