Reivers Out Gun Lakers 4-1

SPENCER, IA: The #8 Reivers outmatched the host Lakers 4-1 in Spencer.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Needing toi score multiple goals to get back into the ICCAC title hunt, Iowa Western got on the board early through sophomore Ella Pelletier. Off an attacking corner deep in the Laker half, Paula Boza created space for herself to send a teasing ball across the 18. Pelletier read the flight well and tapped in far post for the opening goal. The half would end 1-0.

After the break, it was the same combination, this time off a corner. Pelletier found herself open and redirected the Boza cross convicingly into the back of the Laker net. Pelletier's second would prove to be the match winner. The Reivers would put the match out of reach minutes later when another Boza cross found an open Addie Moser inside the six-yard box. The freshman confidentky headed the ball home to increase the lead to 3-0 in the 60th minute. Boza would add a goal to her 3 assists in the 71st minute off a well worked Reiver corner. Anna Hall toom the short corner and fed the Spanish native at the top of the 18. Boza took a touch and fired a shot to the top shelf for the 4-0 lead. The Lakers would get one back in the 84th minute to cut the deficit to 3.

 

NOTES & NUMBERS: The Reivers improve to 12-1-0 on the year with one game left. Boza's 3 assists and goal now givers her a team high 12 goals and 12 assists on the year. Her 12 assists are good enough for 4th best in the country. With the 3 goal win, Iowa Western has a chance to capture its 16th straight ICCAC Regular Season Championship with a win at home on Tuesday verse Iowa Central. A tie or loss in that match will keep them in second and second seed in the Region XI Tournament. 

QUOTES: Head Coach Adam Sanchez: "The team did exactly what we needed to do today. We got all 3 points and we got the goal differential that we needed to give us a chance on the final day. It still won't be easy, but we've done enough up to this point. We're pleased with today, but we are looking forward to Tuesday."
