Reivers Win Dogfight In Heat With Mustangs

Council Bluffs, IA: The Reivers scored on either side of the half to edge the Mustangs in the heat.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  The Reivers got on the board early as freshman Marie Quentel blasted a Mustang clearance from 35 yards out. The lead lasted less than a minute as Western Wyoming finished off a great team move that found a Mustang forward at the top of the Reiver penalty box. The Mustang forward turned and finished top corner for the equalizer. The goal was against the run of play as Iowa Western dominated possession in both halves, but had little to show for it on the scoreboard. However, sophpomore Ririka Kamimura rescued all 3 points in the 88th minute with a well-placed finish to the bottom right corner of the Mustang net. The 2-1 scoreline was a well deserved result for the Reivers as they kept play in the Mustang half in the heat for much of the game.

NOTES & NUMBERS: The Reivers improve to 3-0-0 on the year. Quentel and Kamimura each picked up their 3rd goal of the season. For Kamimura, it was her 3rd match winner of the year, which leads the country.

QUOTES: Head Coach Adam Sanchez: "Today wasn't pretty. The conditions were difficult to play in with the heat and the opponent. However, credit the team for domintaing long stretches of the match and dictating the rhythm and tempo of the game. In the end, we got the 3 points that set out for. Job done. We now have to turn around and find a way to prepare for Northeast CC.
