Jackson, MI: The Reivers used 2 early goals to top #10 Monroe Community College 2-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  The Reivers made 2 early goals stand for a crucial win vs MCC. Sophomore Anna Hall blew past the Tribune backline on a counter in the 6 minute of play. The Hurricane, UT native rifled a shot across the frame which the Monroe keeper was able to parry, but Ririka Kamimura was on hand far post to tuck home the rebound. A minute later, Paula Boza slipped Hall in again on a well-timed run that put her 1v1 with the goal keeper. Hall took a touch around the onrushing goalkeeper and coolly slotted home to double the lead.   Despite both teams having multiple chances on goal, it was the Reivers that made the first 10 minutes of the game decisive. The game would end 2-0.

QUOTES: Head Coach Adam Sanchez: "Today wasn't pretty. It was a wide open affair for two teams that are still finding their way. It could have very easily been a 6-5 type of match. However, we showed a lot of grit and determinination in our play. We didn't back down or flinch in a battle with a team that is known to out work their opponents while playing with a lot of quality. We saw that from Monroe today. They were relentless, but we played with a lot of courage. We created some chances that we will put away further along in the season and we will try to limit our opponents from getting so many clean looks on goal.At the end of the day, we scored 2 really great team goals and conceded 0. The 3 points is what we were after and I felt we deserved it. We now have a bit of a rest and we need to prepare for Western Wyoming next weekend.

UP NEXT: The Reivers take on Region 9 title contenders Western Wyoming next weekend on Friday, August 27th and August 28th. This will be the first time the Reivers face WWCC since 2018 in the Great Plains District Championship in Council Bluffs.
