Reivers Score Early To Run Past Redtails

Council Bluffs, IA: The Reivers ran past the visiting Redtails behind 4 goals from freshman Paula Boza.

HOW IT HAPPENED: After weather forced a 24 hour postponement, the Reivers got to work right away. Freshman centerback, Mayu Inokawa, found Paula Boza in behind the Hawkeye CC defense on the right side of the penalty area in the 3rd minute. The freshman Barcelona-native rifled a hard shot beating the oncoming Redtail goalkeeper for the game's first goal. The build-up and result was similar minutes later in the 8th minute, this time sophomore midfielder Laura Linares the provider. Boza would pick up her hat trick in the 14th minute from freshman defender, Lucia Mei. Anna Hall would add another goal to put the game out of reach in the 34th minute. The Reivers built up play on the left side and worked it into sophomore forward Ashley Medina, who found Hall open on the weakside. The Hurricane, Utah native crushed her shot into the back of the net leaving the goalkeeper no chance. Boza would add to her goal total in the second half off another assist from Inokawa. The final score was 5-0.

NOTES & NUMBERS: Boza completed the fastest hat trick in recent program history in 13 minutes. The Reivers have yet to allow a goal this season with 270 goaless minutes. The Reiver defense has also limited opponents shots to 2 shots per game.

QUOTES: Head Coach Adam Sanchez: "Today was another great step. However, the season is still young and we have much growing to do. Hawkeye is a quality side and were coming off a great result. We knew they would be dangerous, but the players were excellent in their possession and winning the ball back. I really loved the players' effort to track down the ball and win it back. That was huge for us in limiting Hawkeye's opportunities. If we can build on that mentality, then we are going to be very difficult to play against."

UP NEXT: The Reivers are on the road as they face Southeastern Community College Saturday, April 10th. Match updates can be found on Twitter at @ReiverWSoccer.
