Reivers beat Hawkeye 8-0 on Sophomore Day

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA: The Reiver women's soccer team closed out their last regular season home game with an 8-0 win against Hawkeye Community College.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Buzzing with excitement from honoring the sophomores, the Reiver women's soccer team came out focused and energized to begin the match against Hawkeye. With a through ball from Abby Hall, Ashley Overberg took a Red Tail defender 1v1 and placed the ball effortlessly in the back of the net in the 7th minute of the game. Kauany Sousa and Paola Ochoa each got a goal in the first half, both being assisted by Alex Boss. The Reivers went into half time up 3-0.

In the second half, Sousa put two more away, while Veronica Herrera got her first of the match off a header from freshman Blanca Osorio during a corner. Alex Boss added another goal to her total for the year from a brilliant ball by Paola Ochoa. Freshman Charlotte Heithoff closed the game out with smashing a penalty kick behind the Red Tails' goalkeeper in the 87th minute, finishing the game 8-0.

NOTES & NUMBERS: Freshman Paola Ochoa etched two assists and a goal during the match against Hawkeye. Leading goal scorer, forward Kauany Sousa, earned a hat trick, increasing her goals scored to 22 on the season. Sophomore Alex Boss also went for two assists and a goal in the match.

QUOTES: Head Coach Adam Sanchez: "Today was a fantastic day to be able to honor our sophomores for all they have done and given to this program for the past two years. We wanted to come out sharp and dominate play, allowing all of our players to get time on the field. We moved the ball well and found the space they gave us in the midfield and defensive line."
