Reivers run streak to 10 following 7-0 win over Southeastern

BURLINGTON, IA: The Reiver women's soccer team improved their win streak to 10 games after defeating Southeastern Community College 7-0, closing out their regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED: With the Reivers going into the strong winds in Burlington, it took them into the 22nd minute of the match to score the first goal, with a header by Moriah Lucas, assisted by Laura Chavez. Once Iowa Western was able to get their runs in behind Northeast's back line, the goals kept coming. In the 24th minute, it was Chavez again with the assist, who was able to find Paige Moser as she put one away with her left foot far post. Alex Boss was able to get one past the Hawk's goalkeeper with a ball slipped through the defensive line by yet again, Laura Chavez in the 28th minute. Jessica Curtis combined with Anyeli Solarte in the Hawk's box, causing miscommunication with Southeastern's defender and goalkeeper, improving the score to 4-0 going into half time.

The Reivers started the second half off strong, with Veronica Herrera putting a header away off of a corner kick from Estefania Cardona in the 48th. Laura Chavez got a goal for herself this time after Anyeli Solarte played her a ball through the back line. Moriah Lucas got her second goal of the match from a ball over the top from Abby Hall in the 55th minute. The Hawk's remained scoreless and the Reivers went on to win 7-0 to close out their regular season.

NOTES & NUMBERS: Laura Chavez produced the first three assists in the match (27 on the season), along with getting the 6th goal of the game. Moriah Lucas improved her goals on the year to 8. This was the seventh game of the season where 6 or more players scored in a match/

This team has a great ability to be able to create and find space either in front of or behind the opposing teams back line and capitalize on scoring opportunities. Looking ahead, we are excited to finish the regular season as well as host the Region XI semifinal match."

UP NEXT: The Reivers close out the regular season with a match verse Council Bluffs Soccer Club on Monday evening under the lights at Lewis Central High School. The Reivers received a first-round bye for the Region XI Tournament and will host the semifinal match at home against the winner of Indian Hills CC and Iowa Lakes CC on Wednesday, October 24th at 2pm.
