Reivers come up empty to defending champ, NJCAA #2 Tyler JC

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Reivers' came out with great energy and confidence right from kick off against the 2017 NJCAA National Champions, Tyler Junior College. With five minutes into the match, Tyler's sophomore midfielder Hitomi Konno was able to capitalize on an opportunity from the top of the box, resulting in a 1-0 lead for Tyler. The Reivers' responded well after Tyler's goal and kept up the intensity and sharpness through their midfield and forward line, creating multiple scoring opportunities. Even with some quality chances on set pieces, the Reivers' struggled to find the back of the net. Tyler was able to hold on to their 1-0 lead during the second half, resulting in a win for the Apaches.

NOTES & NUMBERS: Sophomore goalkeeper Whitney Dockweiler made four massive saves for the Reivers' to keep Tyler's scoring at bay. Freshman Kauany Sousa dictated the forward line, making great runs and scoring opportunities in the Apache's final third.

QUOTES:

Head Coach Adam Sanchez: "It was a great opportunity to play a game against a quality opponent such as Tyler JC. Each team played strong and smart, but we were unlucky in some of our scoring opportunities. We hope to have the opportunity to see Tyler later in the season and have the result end in our favor."

UP NEXT: The Reivers are back in action Sunday, September 9th at home as they face #9 Laramie County Community College. The match can be viewed live at www.njcaatv.com/iwcc. Match updates can be found on Twitter at @ReiverWSoccer.
