Waterloo, IA – Iowa Western finished the regular season with a 3-0 conference win over Hawkeye CC.  Iowa Western ends conference play with a perfect 8-0 record.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  Tuesday's match presented Iowa Western with a new set of challenges:  heavy winds and cold temperatures.  The Reivers dominated possession in the first half and had several chances on goal; however, the Reivers could not find the back of the net.  Hawkeye only had two shots in the first half.  The Reiver back line (Sofia Colvin, Veronica Herrera, Alex Allgaier, and Kate Reddish) and freshman goalkeeper Mandy Clark shut down the Redtail attack.  The score remained 0-0 at halftime.

Iowa Western came out strong in the second half.  In the 50th minute, freshman midfielder Laura Chavez sailed a corner kick to the back post for Veronica Herrera to head into the net for the first goal of the match.  In the 59th minute, the Reivers earned another corner kick.  Hawkeye scrambled to clear the ball, but freshman midfielder Abby Hall was there to drill the ball into the goal to give the Reivers a 2-0 lead.  Finally, in the 75th minute, Kate Reddish crossed a ball into the box for Alex Boss to finish with a header into the back of the net.  Iowa Western won the match 3-0 in very tough weather conditions.

NOTES & NUMBERS:  Veronica Herrera score off of the Laura Chavez assist in the 50th minute.  Abby Hall scored unassisted in the 59th minute.  Alex Boss scored off of a Kate Reddish assist in the 75th minute.

QUOTES:  Assistant Coach Marissa Ringblom

"Our goals for this last match before post-season play were to avoid injuries and red cards and get the result.  The wind and cold temperatures provided an extra challenge for us and we failed to adjust our play in the first half.  We were proud of the response of the group after halftime.  We started keeping the ball on the ground a little more and making smarter decisions on the ball.  Ultimately, we got the win and we avoided any cards or major injuries.  We should be healthy and strong heading into our semi-final match next Wednesday.  We will play the winner of the quarterfinal match between Northeast CC and Hawkeye CC."

UP NEXT:  The Reivers will host a Region XI Semi-Final match at 2:00PM CST on Wednesday, November 1st.  The Region XI Final will be played at Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, November 4th at 3:00PM CST.  For details and match updates, please follow Iowa Western Women's Soccer on Twitter @ReiverWSoccer.
