Reivers win sixth match in a row

Council Bluffs, IA – Iowa Western beat Dakota County Technical College 13-1 Saturday afternoon at the Reiver Sports Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED:  Two minutes into the match, the Reivers earned a penalty kick off of a hand-ball in the box.  Freshman midfielder, Laura Chavez, stepped up and placed the ball into the net.  In the fourth minute, sophomore Kate Reddish took the ball up the sideline and sent it in for freshman midfielder, Paige Moser.  Moser touched the ball around the defender and slammed the ball into the goal.  In the sixth minute, freshman midfielder, Anyeli Solarte, passed the ball off to Chavez who finished the Reivers' third goal of the match.   Iowa Western continued to find the back of the net, ending the first half with a 7-0 lead.

In the second half, the Reivers continued to focus on possession.  Within the first five minutes of the half, Claire Groves, found Anyeli Solarte for the first goal of the half and an 8-0 lead.  The scoring continued for the Reivers, finishing five more after Solarte's first goal of the half.  Goalkeepers Paula Conde and Brittany Hustig split time in the second half, keeping Dakota County's score at a minimum. The Reivers earned a 13-1 win and three points towards conference standings.

Cloey Allgood scored with an assist from Groves at 65:00. Jessica Curtis scored with an assist from Allgaier at 70:00. Hunter McAlpin scored with an assist from Reddish at 75:00. Bruna Leiria scored the final goal with an assist from Curtis at 89:00.

"Our goal for the match was to focus on possession and work on our style of play.  We gave the girls the lofty goal of completing 500 passes during the match and they did it.  We were very pleased with the effort and play of our entire group.  We will immediately turn our focus to our next conference match against Hawkeye next Saturday and spend the week preparing.  We hope to put ourselves in a great position for post season play. "
