Reivers dominate in conference match against NIACC

Council Bluffs, IA –Iowa Western dominated their game against North Iowa Area Saturday evening, coming out on top with an 8-0 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Iowa Western started the game maintaining a majority of the possession. Although the Reivers did not keep the tempo as high as they hoped, the team successfully shut down any opportunities the Trojans sought, allowing them only one shot on goal.  In the 20th minute, freshman midfielder, Laura Chavez, passed the ball over to sophomore forward, Daniela Cardona, who whipped the ball into the net for the first goal of the match.

Iowa Western stepped onto the field in the second half ready to finish the game off with a bang. At halftime, the team talked about moving the ball around faster, but no one could have predicted what was coming next.  In the 51st minute, freshman midfielder, Paige Moser, sent the ball into Chavez who cleanly finished and earned the Reivers second goal.  In the 53rd minute, freshman defender, Kaylie Smith, assisted Moser in scoring the third goal.  In the 55th minute, sophomore defender, Alex Allgaier, helped Chavez earn her second goal of the game. At 56 minutes freshman forward, Alex Boss, helped Cardona earn her second goal of the game. Again at 56 minutes, freshman defender, Veronica Herrera, assisted sophomore forward Dani Robb in scoring the seventh goal.  Finally in the 78th minute, freshman midfielder, Hunter McAlpin, sent the ball to sophomore forward, Careena Alaoui, who took on the North Iowa Area's goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation to score her first goal of the season.  The Reivers earned three more points towards conference standings with the 8-0 victory over NIACC.   

NOTES & NUMBERS: Daniela Cardona scored the first goal with an assist from Laura Chavez at 20:00. The Iowa Western team banded together to earn the second goal at 47:00. Chavez scored the third goal with an assist from Paige Moser at 51:00. Moser scored the fourth goal with an assist from Kaylie Smith at 53:00. Chavez scored the fifth goal with an assist from Alex Allgaier at 55:00. Cardona scored the sixth goal with an assist from Alex Boss at 56:00. Dani Robb scored the seventh goal with an assist from Veronica Herrera at 56:00. Careena Alaoui scored the final goal with an assist from Hunter McApin at 78:00.

"We definitely owned the match, but in the second half we finally got the energy to put them away and demoralize them," Reddish said. "The team had better, positive communication."
