Council Bluffs, IA – #6 Iowa Western suffered a dramatic loss in its first nonconference match against #7 Butler. Unusually, the Reivers start their season with 0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Within the first ten minutes of the game, Butler had put away two goals. The first ball slipped through the defense, creating a 1v1 situation with the Grizzlies returning player Kennedy Weaver, and freshman goalkeeper Mandy Clark. Minutes later, Butler was awarded a set piece, which sophomore Kyla Kreemer sent over the wall and into the net. In the 21st minute, the Reivers responded when Kate Reddish whipped in a cross into the box from the right flank, which freshman Ashley Overberg was able to guide it in to the back of the net with a sliding effort.

Iowa Western entered the second half trailing 2-1, but created multiple opportunities to score in this wide open affair. However, the Reivers were unable to find the back of the net. Butler, led by Kreemer, however, took advantage of their opportunities and buried 3 second half goals.

NOTES & NUMBERS: The Reivers start their nonconference with 0-1. Ashley Overberg records her first goal of the season, along with Kate Reddish notching her first assist.
