Women Qualify for the National Championships

The Reiver Women's golf team wrapped up regional play with a 2nd place finish at the Plains Championship held April 29th and 30th in Dodge City, Kansas. Host School Dodge city took the victory with a 7-stroke advantage over the Reivers.

Day 1 the Reivers posted a team score of 313, one of their better rounds for the year. Led by Sophomore Baylie Pyke and her 72, which also was good enough to lead the field. Wen-Yi Hung also played well and recorded a 76. The Reivers found themselves 8 strokes back from Dodge City.

Knowing that the women were behind entering Day 2, they started to chip-away at the lead and were within 3 strokes of 1st place with 3 holes left to play. The Reivers were able to better their score from Day 1 and shot a 307. Once again led by Pyke and a 73, Freshman Charlie Maxwell recorded another score of 73 and Hung was solid with a 79. Pyke took individual Champions honors while Maxwell and Hung finished in the top 10 and earned All-District team honors.

"For us to compete and stay close to a team on their home course says a lot about the character of these players'" said Head Coach Matt Robinson. "We posted 2 of the better scores for us this year. We are going to build on this momentum and ride it through the National Championships."

The Women will have 2 weeks off before the play at the National Championships in Melbourne, FL. This qualifying, marks the 13th straight season the women have qualified for the National Championships.
