Reivers Women's Golf Continues Overall Improvement; Gibson Takes Crown at IWCC Intercollegiate

COUNCIL BLUFFS, IA

After a week off from their last event, Reivers Women's Golf hosted the Bent Tree Intercollegiate Golf Tournament. The team came away by shooting their two best rounds so far this season. After day one the Reivers found themselves tied for 1st Place with Morningside. And Freshman Luisa Gibson was tied for 2nd place individually.

"I was pleased with our team score (321) and how well the girls played on day one. We didn't have the ideal conditions with the weather and the putting greens were just aerated the week prior. For Luisa and Holly Elliot to shoot in the 70's was great to see," said Assistant Coach Matt Robinson.

Day two brought better conditions for the field and all teams were able to improve their team standing. Iowa Western was able to improve on their first-round by 6 strokes (315), but it wasn't enough as Morningside (NAIA) and the University of Nebraska-Omaha (NCAA D-I) were able to overtake the Reivers.

Individually, Gibson was able to back her first-round up with a 73 to take overtake the leader and take 1st place outright by a single stroke. Fellow freshman Seira Kubo bounced back as well with a 76, good enough for 5th place in the individual standings and Elliot rounded out three Reivers inside the top 10, taking 9th overall.

Maya Northcutt had a solid performance and finished her tournament inside the top 20, while Katie Schweers shot her personal best once again (89) to take 25th.  Fellow newcomer Sam Doughty continues to improve her game and finished in 34th.

The squad will get another chance to improve on Monday when they travel to Ames, Iowa for the Gall Invitational hosted by Des Moines Area Community College at the Ames Golf and Country Club.
