Reiver Women's Golf didn't have much time to relax, just four days after their first tournament of the year the squad turned around to play in a packed field in the Lila Frommelt Fall Classic hosted by Briar Cliff University.

The women got off to a great start on day one, shooting a team score of 332 to leave them in second place out of 14 teams. First-year golfer Seira Kubo continued to show her skills and held the same spot individually with a round of 78. Luisa Gibson, a January 2020 addition to the team, landed in sixth overall with her score of 80.

A windy second day meant survival of the fittest for the field.  Howling from the south at 25-30 mph with higher gusts, the wind kept the field from moving on the leaderboard, including the Reivers.  The day one deficit proved to be too much to make-up for IWCC, but the team was able to hold on to their lead over the competition to finish second overall.

"The women showed great adversity, not only having to deal with the wind on day two but also with limited rest. Add in COVID-19, where we normally would spend the night up there because of the early morning shotgun start, meaning we had to drive back and forth both days. That led to a VERY early start for the women," said Assistant Coach Matt Robinson.

Kubo ended the tournament in fourth place, shooting a two-day total of 157, while Gibson finished ninth (162). Holly Elliott continues to learn the American game, finishing another good showing in 27th.  Newcomers Katie Schweers and Samantha Doughty continue to improve their golf game. Katie was able to break 90 both days and had a solid finish in 33rd. Doughty also improved her scoring and ended in 76th.  Omahan Maya Northcutt also performed solidly, finishing in 36th.

The women will take two weeks off before they host the Collegiate Showcase at Bent Tree Golf Course on September 28th and 29th.
