Reivers Set Record; Capture First Region 11 Title Since 2013

Council Bluffs, IA - For the first time in over a decade, Iowa Western Softball won the ICCAC Region 11 title defeating Indian Hills 8-1 and 10-4 to sweep the three-game series.

Game one saw a dominant pitching performance from Sophomore right-hander Madeline McCall. McCall (11-6) threw a complete game, scattering 4 hits while giving up just one run in the 4th inning, striking out three Warrior batters on just 68 pitches.  She was helped out offensively by Ella Fitzpatrick who went 3-4 with a home run and a three-run double in the bottom of the 4th.  The Reivers (37-17) put up five runs in that inning including a home run from Sophomore Alex Stoner.

The Warriors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game two, on a pair of doubles from Jenna Lemley and Hannah Simpson in the 2nd inning off of Sophomore Erin Kirkland.  IWCC scratched across a run in the 4th and two runs in the 5th inning to take a 3-2 lead. Moira Baxter stole her 47th base of the season, breaking the all-time single-season IW record that was set by Chanel Reeves in 2006.

Indian Hills promptly tied it back up on a solo home run from Simpson in the top of the 6th on a solo shot from Simpson. Two singles and two walks followed, giving the Warriors a one-run edge after the top half of the inning.  The Reivers answered scoring 7 runs on 8 hits including home runs from Freshman Allie Cromer and Stoner's 2nd of the day.  Sophomore Pitcher Maddison Depencier (8-3) finished out the game, inducing a groundout followed by a walk but ended the game with a line-drive double play by Moira Baxter at 2nd base who flipped it over to Stoner at first base for the final out to earn the win.

Iowa Western captured its first ICCAC Region 11 title since 2013 and will host the Midwest District Championship versus Crowder Community College on May 10th-11th at the Dr. John & Jean Marshall Softball/Baseball Complex on the campus of Iowa Western.
