Reivers Power Their Way to Final Conference Series Victories

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Iowa Western scored 23 runs in nine home innings to sweep their ICCAC doubleheader versus Southwestern CC at the Dr. John and Jean Marshall Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

The Reivers (23-16) used a five-run first inning and six-run second inning to roll past the Spartans in game one 11-3 in five innings.  Mattea Martin and Ella Fitzpatrick both went yard in the game and all nine Reiver batters either scored a run or plated a run in the first two frames.  In the circle, Maddison Depencier went the distance, striking out six batters.

In game two, Iowa Western jumped out to an early 4-0 lead but Southwestern answered with a four-run fourth inning.  The Reivers would strike back with five runs in the bottom of the frame, getting RBIs from Olivia Kyes, Alex Stoner, Tahjzha Botts, Erin Gunn, and Ella Fitzpatrick.  Kyes then delivered the final blow in the bottom of the 5th.  With runners on first and second and no outs, Kyes launched a three-run bomb to left field to give the Reivers a 12-4 run-rule victory.

Fitzpatrick ended her day 3-5 at the plate with a home run, a double, and three runs scored.  Kyes went 3-6 with a home run, four RBI, and four runs.

As of now, the Reivers will be in action on May 3rd for the start of the Region 11 tournament.
