Softball Takes Four of Six on Weekend

Softball Takes Four of Six on Weekend

Council Bluffs, IA

The Reivers went 4-2 over a long weekend.  Friday's game saw IWCC get swept by Kirkwood, however, Saturday and Sunday would fair better as Iowa Western would sweep Southeast and Ellsworth in a triangular both days.

Friday

Kirkwood scored first taking a 2-0 lead on a homerun in the first inning.  Camryn Milley would get the Reivers on the board with a solo shot in the fifth.  Jael Wilde then singled and stole second base before being singled home by Myla Beckstrom to tie the game up.  The lead wouldn't last long as KCC responded with four runs of their own in the top of the sixth.  IWCC would again fight back with two more runs in their half of the sixth with Karis Gifford scoring on a Milely double and Hernandez would single in Tayler Floyd who pinch ran for Milley.  But that would be as close as the Reivers got, dropping game one 6-4.  The second game of the double header was all Kirkwood, defeating Iowa Western 14-0.

Saturday

IWCC got back to their winning ways with a win over Southeast CC 8-0.  Ava Knoll threw a three hit shutout in the win, striking out eight in five innings.  Karlie Chonis would homer in the game, Olivia Kyes tripled, and Karis Gifford, Amayia Hernandez, and Kambrie Stuart doubled in the win.

The second Game of the day was another victory for Iowa Western, defeating Ellsworth 12-0.  Emily Brouse picked up the win in the circle, striking out six while allowing three hits in four innings.  Chonis would again homer for the home team.  Tayler Floyd drove in three runs with a double and triple.  Milley and Hernandez would also double.

Sunday

Brouse picked up another win in the circle, defeating Ellsworth 10-3 while striking out eight in her five innings of work.  Chonis hit her third homerun on the weekend in consecutive games and Olivia Kyes and Hernandez doubled for the Reivers.

The weekend finished with a 14-0 win over Southeast that saw a bunch of different Reivers get in the action.  Ava Knoll picked up the win, allowing one hit in the game.  Ten different hitters for IWCC all had hits in the victory.  McKayla DuVal blasted a pinch-hit homerun in the fourth.  Hernandez tripled, while Floyd and Wilde doubled.  Kyes also doubled twice for Iowa Western.
