Reivers Sweep, Then Get Swept by Iowa Central

Council Bluffs, IA

Iowa Western continued its streak of splits this weekend by taking two from Iowa Central on Saturday but dropping a pair on Sunday.

The Reivers notched 4-2 and 14-6 wins in the opening DH of the four game set.  Brook Melnychuk earned her nation leading 21st victory in the circle while striking out nine and Libby Walls picked up the win in game two.  Mattilyn Reiling and Katriana Bain each drove in two runs in the first game and a bunch of Reivers contributed in the plate in game two.  Reiling, Kennedy Walls, and Taya Opheim all doubled for the home team.  Bain and Aujenai Gregory homered as well.

On Sunday, IWCC lost a 2-1 lead in the seventh in game one by allowing three unearned runs to lose 4-2.  In game two the Reivers never got the bats going, losing 6-0.

"I think our weekend had some really high points and some really low points" said Assistant Coach Mackenzie Enev. "We've got to do a better job of bouncing back when we are faced with a little adversity."

Iowa Western is set to take on Indian Hills at in Ottumwa on Wednesday. First pitch set for 2pm.
