Reivers Split at Home

Iowa Western split with conference foe Southwestern on Wednesday, with an 8-5 win and a 15-5 loss in the night cap.

Jessica Strandlund, Myla Beckstrom, and Taya Opheim all had two hits in the first game, Strandlund with a pair of doubles. Brook Melnychuk picked up her 15th win of the season in the circle, striking out ten in seven innings of work.

Game two was the tale of one inning. The Reivers just could not found a way out of the fifth inning, leading 4-1 at the time, the Spartans hung up 10 runs during their half inning to grab an 11-4 lead and never look back. Mattilyn Reiling had three hits for Iowa Western and Aujenai Gregory had a pair of hits as well in the loss.

"This has been a crazy year all around," said Head Coach Ben Greer. "We've had ups and downs, and I just believe we'll weather the storm and be much stronger for it on the other side. 

The Reivers take on Southeastern at home on Friday and Saturday. First pitch set for 2pm Friday.
