Reivers Raid Columbus for Pair of Non-Conference Wins

Columbus, Nebraska

Two pairs of big crooked numbers paved the way for Iowa Western Softball in an 11-1 and 8-2 doubleheader sweep on Tuesday afternoon against Central Community College (NE).

The Reivers grabbed five in the 2nd inning and five more in the 4th inning in a 5-inning, run-rule, game one win.

Myla Beckstrom, batting as the designated player, scored three runs and drove in a run while Tayler Floyd drove in a trio of runs to support Brook Melnychuk who allowed just four Raider hits while striking out eight.

"We had a quality day at the plate finding ways to get on base and move runners," said Head Coach Ben Greer,  "Melnychuck threw the ball well and we were phenomenal defensively."

In game two, IWCC scored three in the 3rd and three more in the 6th sandwiched around single runs to plate eight and complete the sweep.

Madeline Layman was deuces wild in the game, picking up two hits, driving in two, and scoring two, while Mattilyn Reiling and Floyd also scored a pair of runs.  Hannah Smart threw a complete game, striking out seven and allowing five hits to earn her fourth win of the season.

Friday finally brings the Reivers home.  The squad rematches with North Platte for a pair beginning at 1:00 pm at the Reiver Sports Complex.  The game can be seen on the Reiver Sports Network.
