Reivers Rally, Earn Road Split With NEO

Miami, OK

Reivers Softball keeps getting back up.  After a knockdown, 10-0 loss in game one of Saturday's trip to face NEO A&M, the Reivers exacted quick revenge on the home squad.

Game one saw Iowa Western hang tight through the first three innings against the Norse, surrendering just two third-inning runs to stay within striking distance halfway through the opener.  The home team woke the bats up in the fourth, however, scoring eight runs to put the game out of reach.  IWCC managed just two hits in the game, with Brook Melnychuk and Avery Doucet breaking through.  Aujenai Gregory was the only other Reiver that reached base as NEO took the game in five innings.

A quick start in game two helped erase the Reivers memories of the opener.  Natalie Gunn got the Reivers going with the first of her two hits in the game and scored when Gregory singled with two away.  Julie Katz started in the circle, surrendering just one run early in a 10 strikeout, complete-game performance.  Two-run homers by Madysen Kim and Rebecca Barnett pushed the Reivers ahead late in the game before an RBI from Avery Doucet and a passed ball crossed the plate for the final tally of 7-1.  Gunn and Kim each scored a pair of runs, while Gunn, Kim, and Gregory all enjoyed a multi-hit game to close the day.
